CCC 227 calls us to trust God in every circumstance, even in adversity. It includes a prayer of St. Teresa of Jesus that ends with these words:
“God alone is enough.”
Those words are beautiful. Living them is something I’m still learning.
It is easier to speak about trust when life is going well. When something is uncertain, painful, or beyond my control, that trust asks more of me.
That is what makes this prayer significant to me. It speaks directly into the moments when I am troubled or afraid. Everything around me can change, yet God remains faithful.
I can bring Him my fear. I can tell Him I’m struggling. I can ask for help and still admit that I don’t know how things will turn out.
Trust means placing those uncertainties in His hands and continuing to turn toward Him.
The line “God alone is enough” gives me something to return to when I find myself reaching for certainty I cannot have. It reminds me where my deepest hope belongs.
I want my relationship with Christ to shape how I face adversity, too—to help me pray, make the next faithful choice, and keep going even when I cannot see what comes next.
“Lord, I’m afraid, and I don’t know what comes next. Help me trust You here, too.”
